I'm in So. Cal. At 34 degrees latitude. In this area regardless of time of year only short day onions will produce bulbs. Yellow Granex is an excellent variety. It produces the Maui and Vidalia onions that are so expensive. I grow from onion plants ( not sets) that are available on line and most recently at Lowes and Home Depot. About 60 plants for $4 at the big box stores. If they are grown in raised beds and the amount of sulfur in the soil is limited yellow Granex grown in So. Cal are every bit as good as Mauis or Vidalias especially if used within a few days after harvest. Onion rings made from theses are absolutely incredible!! I like yielding both large and small onions so I can use an entire onion at one time. These also make great spring onions. Leave about 1/2" plus the root and they can be replanted. I've considered converting my entire garden to yellow Granex onion production. They are that good!

how long did it take for them to grow

I didn't think "California Gardening" would have much information that I could use here in western Oklahoma, but other than the fact that we get some snow & freezing temps here in the winter, I think I could apply this information to growing onions in the spring & fall. We are already getting temps in the 80's. I can hardly wait for summer to get here, not. I do have a question. Do you get frost or freezing temps where you are? Okay, I have 2 questions. Do you think frost or freezing temps would harm the onions?

The onions I've planted are going to flower, and the bulb did not developed, what could be stressing them?

Nice video ...plz tell how to grow onion seeds from whole bulb ...I buried a bulb in the soil but it didn't sprout ...after some days I saw that many white small bugs eating or decomposing it...why that's happened??

Hi, Have you had any issues with club root? i am new to gardening and was wondering if you practice crop rotation.

Are you not meant to cover the onions with soil as they start coming out?

I enjoyed this video. You are a good teacher as well as a good videographer. I hope you'll take a look at my video about growing bulb onions in Northern California. Nabt similarities to growing in the two areas. Although I do not fertilize -- just well composted garden soil. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6gsUxYmTChw

Very useful information. I have been trying to grow them for almost 3 months now and they are not even near the size of your 1 month illustration. My spoil is about 4-5 inches high so is there a way you can suggest I root them up, add more soil tot he garden bed and replant? Will that kill them? I live in the caribbean so I have them in a shaded area as it is super hot.
