What a pretty blooming tree to use for a background. Basil is so tasty. Easy to dry and shred. Thanks for the tips!!

I can't buy basil where I live, so growing is the only way. Or having it cold shipped to my house.

is your deck warped?

I grow basil strictly for the honeybees and all the native pollinators. The 2 best varieties I found are African Blue basil and Wild Magic basil. They are both sterile cultivars. They never stop blooming the whole growing season. I have used the African Blue basil for cooking. It is a bit sweeter than the common basil.

Love your videos. You make it look so easy and now I would like to try growing in pots. I have only grown Basil in an Aerogarden and added liquid nutrients. You mentioned in this video to fertilize once a month. How do you add fertilizer to an already growing Basil plant and how much?

I grew basil in 4 1/4" square pots; just one plant per pot, since that was what I had on hand. I sowed them in mid-May, here in zone 6b, from a 25 cent pack of seeds I bought on impulse at the dollar store. I ended up with about 25 plants. Watering is definitely critical - since mine were in smaller pots than yours, I had to water every day when it was hot. I got a pretty good crop off them before they started flowering - I hope to collect seed for next year, if I can. Luke, do you succession plant basil? I didn't think about starting more later in the season this year, but I could next year.

I grew a 7 foot tall tomato plant on my patio this season, but I was not able to keep any basil alive. I have no idea why. Maybe there is a mysterious basil disease lurking on my patio??? It was very disappointing :(

I grew basil in a pot two years ago, I think I'll try it again next year :-)

I grow basil year round using a T5 lighting system. My favorite basil is the one where there is a cinnamon flavor to it. Another thing basil has going for it is that it roots easily from a stem cutting,

I live in Arizona and was told to grow my basil in a potting soil meant for cacti, so that it can drain well. How does this compare to the type of potting soil you recommend? Thanks!
