4 months isn't slow growing... though I guess if you're hungry then maybe... lol But no, that's not slow growing at all.
Is it okay to plant them in September in San Diego, CA? Is that too late, or will our year-round weather allow it?
I'm from Maryland and believe I saw some quinoa growing in my garden every year. It was probably from bird droppings from birds feeding on store bought bird food.

One recipe I love is to mix quinoa with oatmeal in the morning. Maybe add some brown sugar or cinnamon! Its like having an egg and toast all in one! Great video, didn't know you can put the leaves in a salad.
