This is so inspiring! I am selling my suburban homestead in Lompoc and bought a mobile home in San Luis Obispo. I am planning on turning it into an organic fruit and vegetable oasis! Thanks for posting this to show whats possible. I wish I could grow papayas here!

I believe there are too many stereotypes about people living in a mobile home and it gets confused with economic conditions... WOW, that's a lot of unusual gardening products, this person must want the best of everything available. I also read a lot of gardening books and that fact alone has helped me increase production through organic methods. I'm interested in reading Teaming with Microbes but the library does not have any related books. I could buy the book but already have too many other books on many subjects including compost.. The products I use are Azomite, Crab Shell, liquid fish/kelp, Jubes Organics fertilizer, worm castings, bagged compost (humus) and garden soil... Gardening in a mobile home park is not bad if you can keep the domestic animals from digging & pooping in your garden LOL!

I'm curious, are we allowed to plant a tree on our lawns if we live in a mobile home or is that considered a restriction?
I really wanted to plant a blossom tree. -
I think this video started out quite preachy. Some People like their lawns and their little yards, around their mobile homes, however the rest of the video was quite informative.

I live in a mobile home park and am not allowed to have a garden. I've been here for 14 years and have NEVER adhered to their rules. I grow enough to can green beans, beets, tomatoes, potatoes, and I'm sure one or two other things that I can't think of now. But the point is, the rule is STUPID and I will not follow it. Growing ANYTHING is a good thing. (Except "M", maybe)

how much would it actually cost to grow organic food in pots? if you're living in a condo or a townhouse? is it cheaper, then buying it at the store?

I tried the "shotgun" approach a few years ago... I planted EVERYTHING that I could get my hands on. I found that I can grow kale, collards, peas, okra, corn, tomatoes, and herbs very well in my yard. Luckily I love all of those! ;)

About the mustard greens, if he's not on a strict raw diet, slightly blanched mustard greens lose a lot of their spiciness, as do other "spicy" greens. So he might try that if he's ok with some heat.

I do hope people realize a lot of these planting rules are rules people actually want. Why? Because homeowners' associations and mobile home park associations are PRIVATE entities, that private builders or homeowners decided to enforce rules all the owners want. If you don't like it, don't live in a private assocation... Yes, some cities have rules. Again, it's what voters want. If the current voters no longer want that, then work to change it! If you don't work to change it, then in essence, you voted for it. Before you buy into a private association, read all their rules. It's the thick bunch of papers they hand you vs. locations not in a private association.
