You're suppose to peel the skin of the avocado off first, only then will you get a seed to grow.
-
why did you put tooth picks in the ones with soil
I have had no luck growing them in water
but have almost had 100% success growing in damp soil
I water them pretty much every day -
you didn't take the skin off
-
Would love to see how they are doing now!

I had a bird fly in the house and smash all the glass cups in the window, so annoying

I've got an avocado plant growing back home, we planted the pit in soil and it sprouted just fine. It's got maybe a year and a half of growth and it's about 5 ft tall! I treat it as a member of the family now

If you grow 10 avocado from seed how many will bear fruit? What are the chances?
-
if you peel the seed coat off first, it will grow faster. I did it and it rooted in a month with weekly water change

Thanks for sharing. My success of growing my avocado tree was by allowing the seed to dry out, until the outer skin fell off by itself, then I used the toothpick method using an old glass pickle bottle leaving it in unchanged water, when it grew to about 12 inches tall, I then planted it into my garden. It has been almost 4 years and is now over 3.6 feet tall and starting to grow another stem which I call its arm, very slow growing, hopefully it bears fruit and then I will have avos for breakfast, lunch and supper.

If you're going to plant them so close together, I would suggest tiny bit of woodash and woodchip layer. Maybe even some more nutrients depending how dense your soil is.
