How to Grow a Venus Flytrap (Basic Care Guide)
Tips, Tricks
A video about the basic aspects of keeping a venus flytrap alive. It pretty much needs: -A lot of sunlight, or a growlight indoors. -Soil free of nutrients or fertilizers. -It should be watered with distilled, RO, or Rain water which is free of minerals or other dissolved solids. -Keep the moist but never standing in water. -For dormancy keep it outside until november, then bring it inside and keep a growlight over it, turning it on at 9am and off at 3pm.

Can they be left outside year round in Arizona?
-
Such great information. Had no idea they were native in the States.

I live in central Illinois my plants stay indoors due to various critters and careless people and wonder if I just leave a dormant Akai Ryu in the garage(doesn't usually get below freezing if it does it isn't for long) with no light and then this spring put it out side too wakeup, then bring it back in the house, or should I put a light on a timer for 8-12 hours a day?
I have a king Henry that is active now and was brought out of dormancy specifically for sale during this time of year by the seller I currently have it under a desk lamp with a 2700k led 12/12 light cycle. First question, will this light/schedule be OK until next November when I can take it to its natural dormancy with the other one?
Next question, can I transplant these into a bottom feeding type of pot? every other video, including the one from the place I bought mine says "put it in a dish of water" I grow other plants and I know that the medium that the roots are in and the roots themselves should not be submerged all the time, this causes root rot, in the bottom feeding pot I'm talking about, only a small portion of the medium and roots are in the water. Would this work well?
Next question, my plants will live their entire lives indoors, maybe occasionally taken outside, (there are flies around the trash can we put the dog scat in, sometime I can take it out by that for a feeding, so-to-speak) I can assure you there is not a thriving population of insects in my house to sustain 1 plant let alone 3 (the other is from Walmart and I expect it to die soon) can I feed it wax or meal worms, like the kind sold at bait shops? How often should they be fed?
Final question, can you do a video or tell me what happens to the trap after it closes on its prey? Does it open back up after it digests the prey? Does the trap/petal die and a new one grows? One of them that I have, after the trap closes on the insect it turns black/dies, is this the normal way it works?
Thanks in advance.
p.s. you do sound a little like Obama. 😃😄😅🌱💚 -

Kinda worried haha I love VFTs and am planning on getting many, however I lvie in Hawaii. I've been doing everything right, but the hibernation is what has me thinking. Please help!

Does standard indoor light affect their dormancy?
-
You mentioned to slowly introduce them to a lot of sunlight before you were to actually sit them outside. If I'm just starting to grow one, do I still have to do that or will it grow already at ease with the full direct sunlight?
-
what about the videos where they are growing them hydroponics and they are striving

Great video!!! I have my VFT in a bog containers with my sarracenias, I was told they were hardy in my area (it freezes in the winter) and I could leave them to overwinter in a protected area outside or in my unheated garage. From what you said in the video, I should NOT let my VFT freeze...is that correct?

I just bought one yesterday. I was wondering if I could use sand (like a fish tank) as a growing medium. Thanks!
