I live in Shropshire and I keep mine outside (sheltered) as late as possible, by necessity because I don't have much space to overwinter. I've found the "gollum" variety in particular to cope down to 2c provided they aren't in a large pot and they slowly harden naturally to the cold. Mine flower in early autumn although they are usually much smaller flowers and not that showy. As soon as the chance of sub zero appears I bring them in and dry them out (which doesn't take long). I once lost one because of sudden cold snap overnight that burst one unfortunately, so now I tend to bring them in earlier. I just don't have space and I find they grow pretty quickly outdoors so I like them to get as much unfettered, unfiltered sunlight as I can. So I reckon it's the temperature and light length more than the dryness. It can get pretty cold in South Africa but I guess it's drier when it is cold. The small pot and very good drainage is v important in the UK.

I really really loved this. My neighbors had this beauty which was about 40 years old, they cut it down the other day. So sad, it was massive, I have never seen it bloom ever, the climate in South Africa Pretoria is scorching lately with no rain, Heavy water restrictions, lately we have been receiving plenty rain. I managed to pinch cuttings... my crassulas doing well

Can confirm. I got 2 of these plants because... well basically they are the only one that I can keep alive. I forgot to water them in a long period and they started to flower.

Hey Lyn,
wonderful video on your monster jade plant!!!!
i was wondering when should I repot my jade plant?,
its fairly root bound, i got it at the garden nursery in may,
im from toronto so i think we might have similar weather conditions,
and im just feeling really cautious about the plant because I killed a larger jade plant last year.
thank you!!! -
Hello Again:
When you say "totally dry" what exactly do you mean?
Does that mean from September to when the first flowers appear, you do not water it AT ALL or what? Sorry, I'm so new at this, I take what you say literally!

So a year ago, I went to HomeBase in the UK and went to the plant section. I saw this little dying jade plant, it was withering and just looked sad. So I bought it as it was only 50pence, I propagated the leaves on it, there was only 3 of them. 1 died off but the other 2 have rooted and 1 of them has just sprouted new leaves! bare in mind it's taken MONTHS for them to start sprouting!

Hi! I have just recently propagated some jade plant and it's doing very well (using your tutorial - thanks a lot!) but I was wondering where the red-tinged leaves come from, is it only a specific type of Jade? Or i've heard that you can stress it into the red colour? I just think it's really beautiful and I'd love it on my plant! and hello from sunny Scotland!!!

My friend gave me a jade plant and I noticed his has never has any flowers before. We live in Hawaii you see. But I going to try your tips and see if I can make mine to flowers like yours.
So excited! I love jade plant and I'm trying on on my green thumb. I've known for my black thumb (killed plants a lot), and he said this one is perfect for a start. 😁
I'll be posting updates on my Instagram account : @thejunegenie.
Please chime in if I did something wrong. I really don't want to kill this one. 😂 -
Wow Lynn you're my inspiration haha I hope that in a decade I can have my crassulas and cacti in flower like yours, as you have shown us most of them need years to flower n.n Great Advise by the way I'll stay tuned for more xox from Mexico <3

Hello, i am really amazed the size of it compared to my one only in few cm height. I just bought this exact type with bright purple stem as a sign of early growing stage i guess?? :) Could you help me on how keep it well if it is along Equator region like nearby Malaysia? is it true to skip watering once given a day before?
-
How many times have you repotted it?
-
Sooo Pretty

Great video my friend, keep the good stuff coming! - liked :)

It makes such a big difference if you can move your plants outside. We don't have a house so everything is inside. My jades are in the window. Although it is warm in the rooms they have kept their leaves (so far at least), but they will not bloom. I hope I can see them once blooming. It is such a joy for me when one of my plants blooms.
