If you find a gold nugget or coin in the farmers field should you tell him?

If I'm 16, do I need to join these clubs, or will the farmer let me, because I'm young?

Having thoroughly enjoyed watching all of Kris' videos over the last few months, I recently decided to take up the hobby. I always knew the biggest battle would be getting permissions on land as you need to gain the trust of the landowners. I'm a brand and graphic designer so I decided the best approach would be to write a letter and send them a leaflet about myself (Download a copy here - https://www.dropbox.com/s/q899gmsqfzo1xmz/Jeff%20Metal%20Detecting%20Leaflet.pdf?dl=0) as I felt this was the best way to show who I am. Sent off 30 to chosen farms and I'm pleased to say that I now have 3 permissions, one with a scheduled Monument, which I'll stay way outside the boundary of : ) Now the biggest problem I have is finding the time to get out onto the permissions but I'm loving the hobby already. Thank you for the inspiration Kris.

I'm new to the hobby, how would you handle a situation if the land owner wants the items that you find?

Hi Bleeps , ive just started detecting and havent been able to go as no permission , i took a few tips from your vid , this week i wrote a short note to a farm i found on google maps ,
i enclosed a sae and put my telephone number on it , and guess what the phone rings on wednesday night its the farmers wife , she said by all means come she was really nice , so im going there this morning :) 400 acres . so a big thank you for your tips , with out those i wouldnt of done it . -
Very useful information for beginners. If farmer says no you can ask him if you can leave your card with him offering a free finding service to him or any of his fellow farmers should they lose a valuable item around the farm etc, then just to give you a call you never know.

That Call to the Farmer was as funny as my SatNav Bossy B* telling me en-route to my brother's house to "Take the 3rd Exit at the roundabout, and go back" : ) A SatNav is a good idea; There's nothing worse than not being on time when booked to meet a busy Farmer!

This has really helped me : ) thanks! I have had a decent metal detector for ages and only ever had one field to use it on. This is because I live in the longleat area which makes it hard to get permission because they refused to let me search : (. But now I am using your tips and it is definitely helping:))) cheers!! - Theo

Do you think that having ginger hair improves your overall chances of getting approval from the happy farmer?

If they say no, do you ever offer to share any finds with them?

Really enjoyed this video. It was useful and entertaining at the same time. Very rare to find both in one video. I'm in the USA but people are basically the same all over the world when it comes to being courteous. You live in a terrific country with a long history to hunt the best targets. We get excited over finding relics only 100 yrs. old or modern rings on a beach here in California. But I'll be asking permissions to hunt around old houses/properties after researching for some of the oldest. Meteorites are more valuable than gold, so I'll try that too. Thank you for all the good info! I'll check out more of your videos.

Hey, do you know by any chance if there is a similar organisation like the NCMD in the Netherlands? Thanks in advance!
