wow so much work. why not just use a sod cutter and replace the old mess with fresh new rolls of sod its way easier and you get brand new fertilized grass

The lawn needs to be completely de-thatched. I lived in the midwest and my boss was obsessed with the aerator as well. Attach a dethatching blade (the kind with the springs on both ends) to your mower. There 15 bucks at home depot works amazing.
