I have about 90 acres of land in the Appalachian mountains there are many ginseng plants growing in my area. The other day I caught somebody hunting in my woods so now I'm trying to learn to ginseng hunt so the thieves don't get them first!

Great job on explaining the companion plants and proper conditions for expecting ginseng. I also like your ethics of letting the plants grow to a bigger size before harvesting. Kind of like putting a fish back in the water that is too small. 'Great job! Thanks for the well-explained video.

I'm interested in hunting for these, I live in a wooded area. How can you tell when they are ready to harvest and take in to sell?

Looks like five finger ivy (virginia creeper) but with red berries and green stems.
-
you said you break the stem to hide the plant. where did you break the stem? and does it have any effect on the growth of the root?
-
One leaf on each prong, 5 leaflets on each prong. Stem leading up to the leaflets is called a petiole.
