What to do with the brown tips?

I have a problem with my canary island date palm tree. About 5 years ago I planted a canary island date palm tree from seed. my problem is that it has had the same 3 leaves for the last 4 1/2 years, and its been at the height of 1 foot this whole time, it doesn't even have a stump yet. I just would like to know if there is any thing i can do to fix this.

Omg ttly love! Thx soooo much!

I have a Brazoria Palmtto in a Pot... And one Outside as well in Indiana. Most cold hardiest out of all the trucking Palmettos. I think its a Dwarf Palmetto mixed with a sabal Palmetto.

Thanks for this video. Love, kris.

Thank you. This short video told me more about what to do about watering than any of the other articles I have read. I have a problem with the tips turning brown. Everything was very concise. Question: Is Liquid Miracle-Gro plant food drops good for Majesty Palm. It says you should put drops in water every time you water.

That was good information. Thank you. I have had my palm since july, and it is now dropping it's bottom fronds, they turn yellow, and I have to cut them off. I guess that is what it is also suppose to do....

@chuckzamzow I have a box store palm, and I keep it watered, and it's still slowly dying. It doesn't seem like he wants you to keep it on the dry side. But more mimic tropical rainstorms. You let the top layer dry, not the whole thing, and then flood it. I'm going to try this and see if it helps.

Actually this is VERY sage advice on the watering schedule. MOST palms and many house plants die/rot due to overwatering. The plant will TELL you when it needs more water..via drying out the soil. I don't believe he wants you to let the soil get completely dry, just water as the soil drys enough that the palm would like more. That can be 5-20 days or so! Yes, I know about the Ravenea rivularis (majesty) is "from a river" thus its name. But the 90F temps promote the growth and uptake of water.

That's great advice for cactus plants and other succulents, but terrible advice for Palm Trees in general. Maybe the Butterfly Palm can go longer without water because it's one of the more robust, tough and hardy Palm Trees, but most other palms will start to die if you allow the soil to go dry during the growing season.

The big box stores tend to sell Majesty Palms and Cat Palms - both of these grow in swampy areas - if a person was to take your advice seriously for one of these types of palms it would only lead to new sales for the growers - you will kill these two palms by keeping them on the dry side - you CAN NOT make generalizations when it comes to house plants - so much for the education system in Kansas!
