Lucky Bamboo are not a bamboo but are a Dracaena sanderiana and grow from roots. While they are sold and grown hydroponically (in water), lucky bamboo can be potted up in soil. Lucky bamboo prefer bright, filtered sunlight, such as found under a rainforest canopy or a flower bed/window with morning sunlight. Avoid direct sunlight or deep shade. Periodically cut out any brown foliage. Lucky bamboo can grow indefinitely in a simple vase filled with pebbles (for support) and at least an inch of water. Chlorine in water may damage the plants. Lucky bamboo likes warmer temperatures of between 65ºF and 90ºF. They suffer below 60ºF. Tools: Scissors for dividing plants and cutting out brown leaves Supplies: Lucky bamboo plant, containers, pebbles and soil. Visit our web page for more videos: www.howtogardenvideos.com

I have been caring for a friends lucky bamboo. It was a gift to her after her stroke, so it has great sentimental value for her and I kind of have a brown thumb. The plant has gotten tall and spindly. Can I trim it back? Will doing that encourage any new growth or will it just stunt it?

I have 7 lucky bamboos, they are growing well in water but something strange is appearing on some of their leaves. they look like little white insects to me, I have been cleaning them with a damp cloth but they come back again, can someone tell me what to do with them?

Why I keep coming across people saying or suggesting that lucky bamboo can not be submerged in water. I have two lucky bamboo's in my 20 gallon tank, I make sure the elbow is above the water, never totally submerged. It is going on 2 1/2 years and no problems.

How long would you let the lucky bamboo be in water for? Is there a certain length to let it grow to before planting?

Hey, I bought 2 lucky bamboos at Lowes just earlier today, It appears theres 3 "Stocks" on each little container thing, they have this heavy duty looking twisty tie around them should that be removed. and Should I plant them all in their own jar. the current jars are only maybe 2 inches tall or so. just little gravel pebbles.

You can leave the lucky bamboo plant in the vase with water and stones for a long time. They get bigger over time. When you add water is best to use water that has set out overnight or distilled water. They do like compost tea for nutrients because over time they usually don't look really healthy in water alone. They can grow in soil as well. They do not like to get colder than sixty degrees so keep them in a warm window with afternoon shade so they don't get burned. Trim them back as needed
