don't keep bettas in tiny bowls they are 2 1/2 inch fish and you should know the 1 gallon per inch rule.bettas are topical fish so require a heater and filters contain the beneficial bacteria that processes the fish waste.if you do not provide them with a heater they will become lethargic.the only time bettas are found in tiny mud puddles is during one the most stress full time of year for them drought season when water can be only a 3inches deep but normally they are found in knee deep water that can stretch for miles.the only time a betta should be put under drought conditions is for breeding because bettas will breed during the drought so when their young hatch it's be right before the rainy season.bettas need a minimum of 2.5 gallon long not tall tank 5 gallons is idle but nasscary.bettas may live a short few months in a bowl a bowl and the only reason you see them in cubs at pet stores is because that is only suppose to be a tempure contentions while they wait for their home.also most plants are toxic to fish and you should always research before adding plants to your aquarium.

plants that are not made for aquaria, are not appropiate for this kind of stuff. the plant takes the oxiden from the water and other stuff and it kills the fish. also, you should make shure that your bulbs are not too wet, becouse then the blooming will rush so much and you will have flowers, for 2 days or so.

For anyone wanting bettas pica's comment is not true. Betta fish live in tiny mud puddles in the wild and is why they are so territorial. I have owned bettas for years. They do fine in tiny bowls, of course the bigger the better but they are a very low energy fish. They love plants and eat and pick at the algea that grows on the roots and the plant loves the fish poop. They don't need filters and do fine at room temp. The biggest threat is kids sticking in their hands or shaking.

I don't understand how a plant can grow larger without soil. Doesn't it need some solid matter to turn into more leaves and stuff?

Betta vases are cruel. Most of the time the priority is to make it look pretty and not the fish's health and happiness which should be top priority with any pet. Bettas need water at 80 F and a filter. Vases and bowels do not go through the nitrogen cycle where ammonia from waste is turned into nitrites by a bacteria colony that grows in the filter, and then the nitrites are turned into nitrates. Put colorful marbles in with the plant but please put the betta in a 3+ gallon tank.
