dear missorchidgirl, how often do you water the azalea? my both azaleas stopped growing and blooming, I don't know why, I think it's because I water them every day, I have seen, the ground it's too wet, well, I hope you can help me, greetings from México...

I like almost all your plants. I just bought myself an Azalea and start to search for how to care for azalea and guess whose video I found first online. hehe. I also have the Christmas Cactus you secretly hide behind your azalea but it hasn't bloomed for years. It kept growing but only gives one bloom maximum per year which is really frustrating. I didn't give her up and am still caring for her hope that one day she will bloom.

I have a azalea and i keep her rate in my kitchen almost next to the window but there is light and no Sun and she is not looking so good what should I do move her to a different spot where there is not much light or should I leave her in the same spot

Do you have any tips for treating petal blight?
It has been really rainy in my country and before that I didn't know that azaleas needed a lot of water daily so I'd water mine, but now I'm realizing it probably wasn't enough. And now she's developed petal blight and I have no idea how to treat it.
Well, I know that it's a fungus but I'm hesitant to use fungicide for fear it will kill my plant and I also am not sure whether I should remove all affected flowers especially since most of them are affected. There are some new ones blooming that are still green and unaffected but still.
Any ideas on what to do? -
Hey, great video! I'm growing azaleas too, so what would you recommend for an dry and hot climate? +1 subscribed! =D

:) I know some suggest sun and some suggest bright shade. I guess some particular azaleas can withstand sun but maybe some hybrids created for windowsills can't. My particular plant likes bright shade and this is the result, but I guess you just have to test out what works better in your environment for your particular plant and decide what is best for it :)

I grow rhododendron before in ground out door, and they are OK, but the deer eat them up one winter-- I am surrounded with 18 acres of woodland here. But nobody sell azalea here, or may be I did not look hard enough. I just looking mostly for deer resistance plant. I ask the nursery before, and they told me that it is too cold here. I will try rhodo in large pot like you do. Thank you for your suggestion :)

You could grow both azaleas and rhodos outdoors in cold climate. I have a rhodo in a large pot on my balcony, because I don't have 'ground' that I own, not because I keep it indoors in winter. I just wrap the thing in burlap for a little bit of protection. They actually don't like to be taken indoors in winter.

I have a big rhodo on my balcony :) would highly recommend getting some sort of evergreen/rhodo soil acidifying fertilizer, it makes a huge difference.

You have very nice weather year round then. Sound like San Diego, may be San Francisco, may be Seattle, or may be Van Couver.
-
Yes you are right, I forgot to mention that :) I repot it in peat moss as well.
-
They need acidic soil too.

Ow yes, snows heavily and gets to even -20 deg but not all the time. Most nights are about -10 during mid winter ;)
-
For winter I will keep it in my balcony with a minimum of 15 deg at night, last winter it did ok like this.
-
That is beautiful as well :D good luck hope it will do well! I dunno how other types of azalea do in the sun but this one really hates the strong sun, likes moisture and humidity and bright indirect sun. It might be a hybrid though.

Curious: how cold does it get at Bucharest during winter? Does it snow?
-
yes, Azaleas, Dahlias, Rhododendrons, Camelias, peonies - all need either cold nights or winter rest. All can't be grown in natural environs here in the tropics.

When I grow Azalea in Arkansas, I grow them in ground out door in the sun. There is a town near by name Muskogee in Oklahoma has a big beautiful Azalea park and has Azalea Festival in spring that I went to every year. Seeing you grow in a pot is kind of strange, but may be I will try. How do they do in a pot in winter? Do you keep them in door, and how cold do you get there. But, the nursery here don't sell Azalea. I may try Rhododendron in door first. They have them here.

:) why not? give it a go, it might do well now, just repot it in peat moss after it is done flowering, seems to have liked the repot. It stays in bloom for about 2 months or so, it produces a lot of flowers in this time.

Is this because of the temperatures?
