what does it mean if it's turning black?
-
That's pretty cool id be scared to do that though in fear of killing the plant
-
Do they need any light in winter
-
I heard that if a plant does not go into dormancy, it will be fine, but won't live as long. I only need it for a science project, so I don't really care if it only lives bout a year. The project is during January, and I don't want it to be dormant then. Is it possible to control a plant going into dormancy? If so, how?
-
why take the whole leaf off if you only need the trap part
-
Can I feed my plant maggots? I get a large number of maggots from the trash lately and would consider to collect them if there feed able to the plant.

hello guys hope you're doing well, need your help for a couple of Questions: What is the min. age of the mother plant before it's ready to be propagated like you demonstrated here?
and then, what is the ointment you used for the root growth (sort of hormone)? thank you -
Good info.

Thanks. The older ones are turning black but I guess if more keeps growing it's fine. I'm glad yours came out okay, I hope mine does the same. :)

When I got my 1st venus fly trap, I got that same situation, or even worst, I used tap water, all the traps started to look bad. I changed to distilled water but they all died anyway. I ignored that and kept watering what it seemed a dead plant and all of a sudden I got new traps! No, 1 year later she's happy, sometimes a few traps die after eating too many bugs but new ones replace them!! p.s I use perlite and pit moss (50%-50%) Good luck :)

I just got my own Venus Fly Trap about a week ago, and I'm doing what I'm told to do to care for it. Sphagnum Moss, Sand with no minerals in it, and distilled water. But lately, some of the little "traps" and leaves are turning black. :( I hope that it's okay.

in order to do leaf separations you have to pull the plant out of the ground, so he is not really doing anything wrong.
-
his potting soil is sphagnum peat moss and perlite h knows what he is doing he just calls his soil mixture potting soil
-
It's not really recommended that you perform leaf pullings at the same time as re potting or plant division. You are already giving it massive stress by uprooting it and it will likely weaken for a few weeks, even without leaf pullings. Leaf pullings should be performed when the plant is at its peak.

@MyHypnoEyez You cannot use potting soil. Carnivorous plants cannot tolerate soils with any nutrients. Peat moss is the basic medium for venus flytrap propagation.
