How and When to Start Lavender Indoors: Takes a Long Time to Germinate - The Rusted Garden 2014
Tips, Tricks
Lavender can take 4 weeks to germinate. It does not like to be buried under the soil. You can start lavender 12 weeks before it is ready to go outdoors. Starting it indoors will allow certain varieties the opportunity to flower the same year. New to Gardening? Check out my 2nd Gardening YouTube Channel dedicated to New Gardeners. Gary, I used the winter sowing method with gallon milk jugs for English lavender seeds last December and ended up with hundreds of plants this spring.
-
The seeds should be kept in refrigerator for a week before seeding, right?

Im in zone 7should I start lavender seed now? can you please show how to bottom water? also, was the seeding mix purchased as is from store?
-
my packet says to refrigerate seeds for up to 90 days? should i skip this as it's December now?

Thanks Gary....I got my lavender seeds sprouting in 2 days, like you said i put 4 seeds in the cups and all my 6 cups had at least 3 sprouts. I couldnt believe it. I have never seen any lavender plant anywhere around me in Lagos Nigeria, I have searched for growersand not found any and that is why i opted to buy the seeds online and just grow it out. I hope i succeed in getting a viable plant.

Do u have holes in your lavender cells? If not, how the water is going to be absorbed into the soil?
-
Can you please share what kind of soil you are using? Also how often do you water your seeds?

Thanks for sharing your experience, Gary. Hopefully my backyard next summer will have plenty of Lavender for my daughter. Do you know if it's possible to keep a small pot of Lavender indoor? If so, can you share some secret to keep it healthy please? I've just learned a pot of Lavender in your room can help reduce anxiety, stress and slow the heart rate during your sleep.
