How and When to Seed Start Zucchini & Squash Indoors: Warm Weather - The Rusted Garden 2014
Tips, Tricks
Squash and zucchini should be started indoors 4 or 5 weeks before warm soil and temperatures arrive in your area. They grow best when the garden warms. Squash and zucchini grow quickly indoors and should be seed started in larger containers. New to Gardening? Check out my 2nd Gardening YouTube Channel dedicated to New Gardeners. Gary, I am fairly new to gardening. Have done container gardening for about 3 years. This year I have built two 4 x 8 raised beds and would like to try yellow squash and zucchini. What is your opinion on how many plants to have if you were trying to have enough harvest for a family of 4?

Thanks Gary. These are nice instructional videos that really help out a new gardener like myself.

+Gary Pilarchik Just a little detail Question. Those pots look like they're about 3" on a side. Is that right? I'd like to hit home d'pot n get some for myself.
OTOH I just got a huge stock of SOLO style 18oz red cups at costco, which should serve just as well. At least, I think so. What's your opinion?

We've had much better success with direct seeding our squash and zucchini. It's funny, but the plants from direct seed sprout and grow past the started (squash & zucchini) plants in our garden. Not what we expected, but we've seen it over the course of several seasons.
