An easier way is to take a small artist paintbrush and brush the inside of the blooms when they are yellow. If the blooms aren't pollenated, they will fall off, so the apple juice is attracting bees or other insects to your garden. Using the brush is a lot easier, and less sticky. I have been doing this for years, and have bumper crops. :)
