You didn't show anything other than picking the stems off the plant. What about separating the seeds from said stem???

Am I seeing this correctly - you're growing quinoa on a covered patio with no direct sunlight?
-
Can you compost quinoa ? even if it has saponine ? Let me know please
-
looks too hard to grow for such little crop i'll stick with tomato
-
How much sun would you say they got every day? I'm also in SC and giving quinoa growing a shot.
-
Dude your quinoa needs some extra sun! Have you tried growing it indoors? Something tells me it would thrive if you used a bit of stoner tech. I'd like to try quinoa in organic soil under leds in a scrog (screen of green) setup.

Did you have much luck with the follow up generation? I've got some mad buds going on my first batch. Should be ready to harvest in a few weeks. Any tips on prepping heirloom seed for the next growing season?
-
Thank you! I just had some white quinoa for lunch (made up like a fluffier tabouleh) and was curious to see how these things were harvested.

How long will it take for those heads to flower? I've been waiting for several weeks now. (I posted a comment under TubeGood4U) ....finally took the time to figure out how to change me ID as I didn't like that other one. Anyhow, trying to wait patiently for this INdoor Quinoa plant to open it's flower buds.

Did you eat any of the seeds?
-
Yup! I'm noticing tiny yellow flowers right now. I have pinched off the lower leaves that are just sucking the life out. More heads showing up at lower levels now too. Like you, I'm testing the ability to grow it, and hopefully move towards growing at larger scale as future forest food. :) My REAL big challenge is growing an edible dwarf banana plant INdoors in Michigan! Mine is coming along so far with a few, resolvable bumps in the road. May your harvest be abundant!

So are you growing this just for seeds to plant for next year or as an experiment or just for the fun of growing something different?
-
Okay, thanks....that gives me an idea at least. Appreciate your help!

This sounds perfect. How much of seed does one need....a few cups, perhaps for 4 people? Just curious as to figure out how much one would need to grow to actually eat from the harvest. Thanks!
-
Sorry to sound dumb, but how does one eat it? I'm guessing you eat the seeds in a sort of gruel, correct? Just curious. You definitely got me interested in growing s bunch next year, though I'm worried about our midwestern heat!

Where did you get the seeds?

I've always pronounced Quinoa kin-oh-uh, no wonder people didn't know what I was talking about. It will be interesting to hear how the Quinoa tastes. Thanks! I read this is a Chenopodium species, same genera as Goosefoot, wonder if the seeds can be used the same. I'm going to attempt harvesting and using some Amaranth and goosefoot seeds when they come in.
