Hello
Can you eat the quinoa right from the plant or do you have to remove the outer layer of the seed before you can eat it?
Thanks -
You haven't mentioned that it needs winnowing- I think it's called. The chaff needs gently blowing off, like corn. Then it is really bitter when cooked, and I was told to rinse it. I did, three times during cooking and it's still bitter. This is the reason I looked at your video. You don't mention any of the important, useful bits.

What variety is that?

I live in Gilbert AZ and I just ordered quinoa seeds! When do you plant them here?
-
omg, that looks so great! =)
-
Thanks!!! :-)

You are meant to soak the quinoa overnight to remove the soapy layer from the seeds. Then they will turn white.
-
You sure can

Can you use the harvested quinoa as seed?
-
If I by organic quinoa from the store can I germinate those seeds?
-
I have heard of people planting quinoa from the bulk bins and growing them fine. I am going to try this method as I buy it already anyway. :D Hope it sprouts!

Hi Mack, we bought ours at our local nursery. If not I know most get theirs online.

where can i get these seeds to plant them...

Thanks so much for watching the videos and for bringing the toxicity of the quinoa coating to our attention. I do mention in the follow up video that you'll want to rinse it because the outer coating has a bitter taste. From my research, the toxicity is no worse than eating a burger... but of course there may be scientists that argue it's much worse. I do appreciate you bringing that to our attention and when we do a follow up... I will be sure to include that research.

I'm sure you're already aware of this, but quinoa seeds have a toxic coating that must be washed off or "polished" off before eating them. It would be worth mentioning in the video. I enjoy your videos.

I had to sub! Great videos! It's always better to know where your food comes from!

New subbie!!! I really appreciate these videos. We're starting a vegetable garden here in Atlanta, and though our climate isn't nearly as dry as yours, your vids are helpful. Thank you!:)

Thx Mscpotts, glad you like and subscribed.

U certainly might wanna rinse it first (if u didn't), but I also agree that what's purchased from the store is typically a chemically altered (bleached or otherwise)-- very much like the stevia at the grocer is NOT purely stevia LEAVES, as the powder is GREEN when using homegrown, rather than white (as is store "stevia")... Still great vidyoz tho'
