http://ebay.to/1Lsj0zB Growth Cycle of the Venus FlytrapIn the Growth Cycle of the Venus Flytrap most Venus Flytraps being grown in the United States are grown from tissue culture not seed which alters the growth cycle a little bit. When grown from see it does not need to be cold stratified like some other carnivorous plants. It can be grown in a pot with wet moss with plenty of sunlight = germination of Venus Flytrap. Initially Flytraps have a short, lanced shaped leaf (juvenille leaf) and then winter shaped leaves after the Venus Flytrap's first dormancy. The initial leaves are short and heart shaped. After the first dormancy the traps make winter shaped leaves which are also short and heart shaped with small traps that cannot function or close, not digesting anything. Spring leaves, fall and summer leaves are shown above. Most Venus Flytraps make their largest traps during the summer time. The B52 shown above; however, makes its largest traps in August/September. Usually a Venus Flytrap may appear that it is dying as it sheds its bigger leaves, growing smaller ones and is really swelling in preparation for winter dormancy as the rhizome swells underground (most plant mass in underground). Joel explains that Venus Flytraps are not tropical plants, but are indigenous to North Carolina. They grow spring to fall and go dormant in the winter.
