Growing Tomatoes - How to sow
Tips, Tricks
http://www.thehorticulturalchannel.info/sow-tomatoes/ Tomatoes can be sown in January, February and March. Sow seeds in a pot or tray of compost and cover with a light dusting of compost or vermiculite. Keep warm at 21*c. If you can’t provide heat don’t sow until the warmer weeks of late February and March on the windowsill. Once the second set of leaves (aka: true leaves) appear transplant into their own 9cm pots to the depth of the first leaves which should be just above the soil. Wait for the roots to appear out of the bottom of the pot before moving outdoors and then ‘harden-off’ over a week. (Harden-off: Keep indoors overnight but put outside during the day). If you are putting outside before the end of the last frosts make sure to protect the plants with fleece. Once frost has past, plant in their final growing positions. Once the first fruits appears feed every week with tomato fertiliser. Self-watering Propagator http://www.kingsseeds.com/kolist45/4/45136.htm?r=true Tomato, v. How do fella. Are you still getting a new greenhouse or have your plans changed. Cheers. Chris.

I look forward to your harvest later on in the year.
I'm sick of eating horrible Supermarket ones now, roll on Summer.
Cheers, Dan. -
I have a very similar propagation tray. If you have your seedling mix falling out of the bottom of the cells just use some cotton wool in the holes and that will hold the seedling mix in the cells and still allow for the water to be soaked up into the soil. It works very well.

Do you think I could put pepper seeds in the vacant spaces at the same time, or should I hold off?

Thanks for sharing Sean. I like the lay-out of the tomato germination trays. A bit like hydroponics- should be interesting to follow the progress. All the best

Great advice, excellent content. I'm really looking forward to sowing some gardeners delight in March but my red robins which i sowed on my windowsill are starting to ripen so next week I'll be enjoying the first of many homegrown tomotoes whilst it's freezing outside.

Started mine Tuesday 😉. Growing italian pear beefsteak, uncle Cecil's heart shaped, lilliput f1, and oxheart. Only need 1 of each so started 6 of each. Put in mini peat pots on heat mat in propagator in mini greenhouse all of which is in my greenhouse. They say that each layer gives a zone, so mine should be on holiday to Hawaii.
