Hi there. I know this video is a few years old. Just wanted to say thank you. I'll be starting tobacco seeds here in SW Florida for the very first time. I've purchased 14 different heirloom varieties, so I just hope to grow a few plants for pollination/trap plants... Appreciate this information you've shared. Hope all is well.

love the video. I read they need to be between 70-80 °f . I have a heat bulb and a uv bulb at 75°f. should I just use the uv light or are they okay?

Planted my Onieda seeds as you instructed and THEY SPROUTED! I was so excited I could not contain myself. I have many other veggie starts that came up also but these are brand new for me so I was overjoyed by the tiny green sprouts.
What does Onieda tobacco need to grow sucessfully? Is it pretty much the same as other tobacco varieties? I live in CT and there is snow on the ground right now.

I had no idea the tobacco seed was so small, also learned not to cover seed with soil, I definitely would made that mistake.

thank you doc.

Seeds will keep for many years if kept dry. You should be able to harvest your own seeds from the plants you are growing now. But one source of seeds can be found on ebay.

Maybe two weeks sometimes three if they are slow starting. When the reach about quarter inch in height is when I do my first thinning.

About how long does it take from first planting until you begin to thin out?

Glad to help!

There is a good chance they where grown in a greenhouse. After a few seasons your seeds will adjust to your growing method and soil.
