Growing Tobacco - First Harvest?
Tips, Tricks
Well as always I don't have a clue what I'm doing but it hasn't stopped me in the past so it won't stop me now. I picked some tobacco leaves and hung them up to cure.

Way to early, let it yellow on it's own, whole plant almost, also depends a little on the species you grew.
-
first time here too, i am experimenting with curing methods right now, trying out mason jars for small scale stuff, trying out fire, fluting and air curing. see what is right for me. making a small kiln too.

looks great!.... it could've aged a little more though
-
Looks great. Congratulations on your first harvest. Tried this myself last year but all my plants died within the first month after transferring to a bigger container.

I offered to trade you an instructional video for some pipe rack parts but you didn't want to do the trade....LOL! =) You would know EXACTLY what to do and when to do it, there in Michigan, since this video was filmed in Wisconsin which would apply to Michigan as well....the offer still stands.... =) Ken

@southernpipeman24 also when rolling cigars like backwood's oldschool hillbilly cigars we cut the leaf in 2's leaving the stalk so u have the nice leaf to roll i hope this helps ya brotherman the key to good tobacco is mother nature she will do wounder's later on bro

@southernpipeman24 ok 2nd is is pipe it will be just about the same as cig tobacco but just alittle less dry this is a method my grandfather used if you take your pipe tobacco and it will be about the same as cig's but you cut it into what size you want then ad your casing's then cry for a bit more ad more casing's to your taste of smoke 3rd is cig's is just the butthole of tobacco leaf's an 4th is chew witch is the left overs of everthing eles

@dighsx it will go threw 3 stadges its just like any other plant once picked it will start to die turning a light tan then it will go threw the dry suger part where it will try to break down the plant to survive then the 3rd part it will be dry ok this 3rd part can be broke up into 4 parts 1 is cigar 2 is pipe 3 cig's 4 chew for cigars your want your leaf to be just a bit tender so you can ad what you want to them for flavor and be able to role them u will need a place to dry
-
@dighsx well the way my granpaw used to do it is just hang it in a barn for heat dry but u can flue cure it but u have to have water like a mini pool just keep a eye on them and dont over cure your tobacco becuase then it becomes way to crubbly and u cant use it u can but it will be bad also keep a eye on blue mold on it if you have any mold u need to spray it to keep it from killing your plants and another thing to know know when your tobacco is ready

They've grown beautifully Jay. Best of luck with that curing ha ha.

your doing it right brotherman if your making cigars but if your doing mass we wate till all of the leafs are a yellow color and cut the hole plant down with a tobacco knife but if i was you i woul keep doing it like your doing it becuase this way u get more out of the plant unstead of wasting the bottom and only getting the top also keep on smoking brotherman
