Growing Radishes indoors in containers part 2
Tips, Tricks
This is an update to the indoor radishes. It's been more than 20 days and it shows no sign of bulbing. "white butterfly" by fluxdelux ccmixter.org

I dont know if my comment is useful anymore because more than two years have already past now. I think they did not create any bulbs because of sunlight and most importantly your soil is too rich in nutrition. seems like you are growing them in compost. they do well in poor soil

BTW, that planter in this video appears quite small. I would have started with a lot more soil, filling it to the top with soil, gently tamping the planter so the soil settles a bit and then sowing the seeds 1/4" deep.

They need more light. The reason they are so long and spindly is because the lack of sufficient light makes them think they are underground and still reaching for the soil line and Sun. Also, it is crucial to sow the seeds no more than 1/4" deep, otherwise you will not get nice round bulbs. Make sure the soil is very loose and not compacted. Follow these rules and you will have ready to eat radishes in about 3-4 weeks from sowing. We've been eating them daily for three months now. My current problem is the warm weather is keeping my soil temperature too high for radish seeds to germinate. My solution, which seems to be working well, was to germinate the seeds indoors where it's cooler. Then as soon as I see the shoots break the surface I transfer them outdoors into full Sun. About two week in on that set and they are about a week from harvest, so hopefully I can keep them going this way through summer.

You are right, they wanted more light. How did they turn out?

OMG! Thank you so much! This will help immensely on my science project! :D

I like the way you film from different angles and showed us your little snow shower lol. Keep it up (: it's finally getting warm here, I live in missouri and I'm going to try to grow radishes too among other things like spinach, kale, lettuce, carrots, and peas (; happy planting ^-^

very simple....need more depth, light, and a good splash of compost tea. those growing conditions arent ideal whatsoever radishes need to be grown fast.

Nice small patio garden. I notice your radish & cucumber yields are low. GrowingYourGreens has some excellent ways to improve yield.
-
A fluorescent light right on top of them could perhaps help. I never tried growing radish in pots though.

I like radish leaves, so at least you'll have that ;) Looking forward to see what happens with them, keep warm, it's almost over!

They look very healthy! I know what you mean, we had snow last week too! Can't wait for spring :) Misilla

You are not alone. My radishes haven't bulbed yet either, 28 days old. I read that I shouldn't fertilize, because then they put on a lot of top growth. I fertilized once with Sea-90...no more. They said to have fertile, moist soil. Mine are in a south window. I look forward to your updates. Good luck!

I had no idea you could mound your radish!

hehe nice!

I think the radishes also start bulbing toward the end of their growth so it should happen in time. It could also be an idea to have a tub that you could grow them in with a plastic cover like a little green house. That way they could get more sun and have the room to grow right where they are planted.
I hope these ones do well for you :)
