Growing peppers in containers: trimming/cropping
Tips, Tricks
I'm trying to get my peppers to bush out so I tried trimming them to promote side growth. So far it is looking pretty good!

do you have a second vid to this one

Very informative, thank you...

You just have to take the apical meristem, not the top half of the plant.. When I "top" I just pinch off 1cm or less from the top bud, then every node grows a branch. U are just re-routing auxin to promote side shoots that will bush the plant out to better capture light and have more fruiting area.

I'm growing peppers inside containers too, so what size large container should I transfer the small plant into?

At 2:36 Was that really 11 days later?? I cut mine a bit higher up and right now 8 days later it has come back really good but far from that. I also cut of all the old leaves after the new ones had formed just so it could focus on the new growth more and they're still pretty small (The new leaves). My plant is a trinidiad moruga scorpion and it looked EXACTLY the same way as yours when I cut it. It's growing at around 22-25 degrees celsius (75 degrees farenheit) indoors with good grow light and nutrients.

Ok I did the same thing right now to my ghost chilli and habanero and Caribbean does it work well and do they die?

Nice job...love the video!

We pruned only one of our bell pepper plants. We wanted to compare the yield to a non pruned plant. I might have pruned it wrong (is that possible?) because our plant did not get bushy. So far it has no blossoms on it either, but all the other peppers do. I'm still hoping it shows me up and does what everyone says it does.

wow they look amazing. I saw this method on ray's channel praxus.. It looks so scary to do especially with me being a new gardener..

I had my 1st Thai pepper seed germinate but it looks different than my other pepper seedlings. It's tiny and yellow colored. It's the only seed I put in that container. It's potting soil and hasn't been outside so I don't think a different seed got into it. Do you know what Thai pepper seedlings look like?

This is a wonderful video! I've always heard about trimming pepper plants, but never knew how far to trim and worried I might destroy my plants. Now I know better - thanks to you. Once my plants get a bit taller, I'm going for it :)

I did this with my Shisito pepper last year and it worked beautifully! I had 2 plants and one was pruned the other one not. The unpruned one broke in the wind and gave me less yield than the pruned Shishito! Good luck with all your peppers :)

i never top my plant unless i have to because i did a study a few years ago with four pepper plants i topped two and let two grow naturally. The results were that i lost almost two weeks of active growth and the ones i didn't top produced more peppers faster.i am doing it again this year because my buddy who told me to top them also told me to do it again.good video keep updates i want to see what happens.now if your in a area where you have a ton of wind i would top them to keep them safe.

They're growing at a good clip, so I'm sure they'll do great. Ray does this with good results too, just for more reassurance: Prune Pepper plants for HUGE yields!

Wow They look awesome!

How did you get it so bushy? I have a Serrano that is starting to get a little lanky but it only gets window light. Do I need to put it outside? BTW, I heard you are supposed to cut peppers after they get a foot tall but I'm sure yours will be fine.

My friend your plant is going to go nuts ! I hacked back to the last two nodes my first cut and in 2 weeks it was going bonkers !!
I am 100% sure you will enjoy the results !!

I think you peppers will be fine. I did some drastic pruning of my pepper plants too this year. So far, it seems to be working. At what point does +Stephen Legaree recommend stopping pruning?
