Hi MrEnergyCzar, How many plants did you have in that container? I have a little, round, 12 inch container on my patio, and i threw a bunch of basil seeds in, thinking only a few would sprout, but i ended up getting 10 plants. I want to pull several out to give the others a chance to get big, but I didn't know how many I should leave.

You could also eat meat right off the live chicken too, but it's not suggested. Raw potatoes can be poisonous. And @ Rainbow, 2000 calories is an arbitrary number created for the sole purpose of a way to help people eat processed foods.

Excellent lead-in, lead-out animations. Peak oil? Already, the decline of easy oil. Now is the time of disaster oil. Oil sands. 2,000 meter undersea oil. Frac gas. One fire in one refinery -- and all the west coast pays more. What if Israel hits Iran? What if Iran counter-strikes against the gulf emirates? What if they launch on the Texas refineries? The USA economy collapses. Check my PVC / plastic hydroponics. Oil base, but --- once the modules are made, they last 20 - 30 years.

One of my fav herbs to grow and good for body. I dehydrate enought to last the winter.

Those plants look lovely! I'm jealous. I have trouble growing basil. It gets eaten by bugs. I use organic compost. Is it better to keep basil in pots?

Just a thought: I wonder what types of plants are best for creating the most usable (energy)calories per square meter? (Plants that do not need further processing. such as rice with gas/heat) So foods that can be eaten raw, high in energy. We need approx 2000 calories a day to be healthy, so with limited garden space, i wonder if we should grow high energy foods? like nuts seeds? fruits? But would these yield the most energy per square meter? just a thought. p.s i love basil too: )
