HEY WHATS UP? I WENT TO A FRIENDS PLACE WHERE HE HAD A COUPLE OF WHAT I THINK ARE THE SAME TYPE OF PINE TREES..... BUT THEY ARE IN TERRIBLE CONDITION, I ASKED FOR 1, TO SEE IF I CAN TAKE CARE OF IT.... THE ONE I HAVE IS ABOUT 4 FEET TALL BUT ONLY HAS LIKE 3 LAYERS OF LEAVES LEFT AND MOST OF IT LOOKS DEAD..... WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST APROACH... I JUST GOT IT YESTERDAY, IM IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, ITS IN A LARGE CAN IM GOING TO GET A POT FOR IT RIGHT NOW....SHOULD I KEEP INSIDE OR OUTSIDE ALL DAY.... WOULD APRECIATE ANY ADVICE..... DO THE REST OF THE LEAVES GROW BACK?...

you gotta get rid of the dead leaves or branches on a plant, its easier on the plant.
-
eventually it will get transplanted into a bigger pot. I keep wanting to think it's a small plant :)
-
mine is doing great in a very big pot!!
-
Put it in a bigger pot!

True dat. I remember getting poked by one and actually started to bleed. I hate it when that happens.
-
Interesting look at it. i take them off mostly because when i water it i get stabbed..lol those things are sharp.
-
I usually leave the dead needles and branches on the tree because it makes it look natural. There's nothing more beautiful than Nature. :-)

YAY! this is a wonderful plant :) i never let this plant dry out completely. however the plant doesn't like to be too wet either... in the heat of the summer i usually water my plant 2 or 3 times a week. i have never attempted to take this plant outside in the summer... but if i did i would put it in a shady spot.

Hi Bill,, I just acquired this plant. How often do you water this during summer? Do you bring it out under full sun?
-
biggest problem with that plants is , that they absorb (dunno if that's the right word) a lot of humidity from the air by their needles. that's why they grow/grew on places with a lot of fog e.g. the coasts. that's also a reason why they die out. if you really want to get into that plants i recommend the mbreg[dot]de community. they do know a lot about that trees. even if its a german community, just post there in english !

some plants just have different requirements... lots of our house plants are trees or large bushes in the wild. I think with the redwood... it needs more humidity.. in the wild it lives in the valleys of the mountains and has heavy fog each day. some plants (not all) just have special requirements that are hard to replicate in our home (not impossible).
