GROWING LEMON GRASS IN WISCONSIN ZONE 5
Tips, Tricks
I decided to try growing organic Lemon Grass to use in Asian cooking and for making tea. I grew one plant from a cutting (thank you Donna) and the others I grew from seed. Both the cutting and the seed are two years old. I will replant a couple pieces of the cutting plant. I will also pot up some of the seedlings. I am very pleased with the outcome. I did not water or fertilize this area.

Did the lemongrass made it to the winter or did they die? It's because I have one outside right now and I'm planning on digging it soon. It will be 20F tomorrow but there are times our temps go down to -20 to -30F but that's around February.

Who's Dannah??

You did a great job keeping the lemon grass alive in your zone. I also keep them going in my garden. They do make a very relaxing tea.

Enjoyed the video. I've never tried Lemon Grass. I'll certainly keep it in mind though.

Wow! Your lemongrass stalks are nice and thick. Mine are very thin like the ones started from seed. I need to try again for the second yeah to get it thick enough I see. Wonderful job and that soil in your big area is great stuff.

Your lemongrass from Donna's cutting is superb Lark and it will be interesting to see if you can overwinter it with a good protection! Take care my friend, Elyse.

Lemon Grass in Wisconsin is amazing. I always thought you would need a semi tropical or year round warm climate to grow Lemon Grass. Well done . Best wishes . Patrick

I finally found some lemon grass. I got it at Lowe's on clearance. I just planted it late in the summer so I think I'll let it get established. I just love your garden!!

Good looking lemon grass. I didn't know it grew that far north. Best wishes Bob.

Yaaay a new video! I have missed them...

That's great! You had good success with getting lots of plants from seed! It's really interesting to learn what the limits are of different plants -- they are more flexible than we give some of them credit for. But you thoughtfully chose a place where they would have the best chance for success, and it was nice to hear your thinking on that!

Lovely Lark!! Such a lovely fragrance ! I too started lemon grass in March or so this year after watching Donna's detailed video, but it didn't make it through the rains, it got too soggy and died. I may start it again in November if I have a vacant spot . Not having to water or fertilize, that's wonderful. I love these yellow wild flowers that pop up in all your videos.

I hope your lemongrass makes it through the winter. Enjoy your tea!

amazing plant smell i like it
thank you for sharing -
Looks great! I cannot believe it has been 2 years! I have overwintered it before (did not get very cold) and it came back. It usually dies though when we have very cold winters. It looks like you got a good stalk or two from the seed planting. :)
