My maple was real dark purple this spring (idk what variety it is) and now it seems to be turning green. Is that normal? It's also getting those spots all over the leaves which I read were just from too much sun. They say it will grow out of that. Is there anything I can do? And what's going on with the color?

I only have one bloodgood 30 year old, which is a 'mother' plant and puts out seeds. My yard is full of babies and small trees. I'm tired of giving them away for free and now have decided to sell them. Most look like the mother, but NONE of them put out seeds and several are also 20 years old. I assume they are sterile. I wonder If I take a cutting off the mother will that eventually produce seeds. ?

Here in California it little tree will sale for $60 to $70

The biggest issue with growing from seed is you may end up with something that looks nothing like the parent. Much like fruit trees, it's better to get cuttings from the parent and root them so you get exactly what you want. I'm not saying growing from seed will not get you what you want, but you take a chance with it.

Hi I live in Minnesota and am so sick of paying to much for Japanese maples on internet I cant find any one who grows Japanese maples

How often should you water these plants when potted and in indirect sunlight? My soil stays moist for a month. They're growing slow as expected, but probably not thriving.

Nice fellow here and some wonderful information.

Thanks for being so generous with your knowledge! I didn't realize they put off seeds like this and am excited to give this a try!
Also - I have no patience for the rude, unfair remark someone posted here. Why would someone go out of their way to be hurtful shows a real lack of maturity and basic civility. You deserve nothing but appreciation here! -
