Growing in Soil - It's Hard to Beet :-)
Tips, Tricks
I've been talking about hydroponics quite a bit lately. Yes, it's an interesting way to grow vegetables. It's quick, efficient, and very productive. However, in my opinion, it's not the best way to grow. The BEST way to grow vegetables will always be in good, quality soil. I decided to share some White Icicle Radish, Champion Radish, and Detroit Red Beets that have done very well in soil that was amended with goat manure. And since this is my first time ever growing a beet successfully, I'm quite pleased with the results.

I've had trouble with germination in the past, but the last year has been pretty good for beets. Thanks.

Just found you on YouTube while looking for advice on beets. I subscribed and look forward to getting help with my garden. I also want to thank you for taking a stand for the Lord.

I've heard about the lack of hydroponic fertilizers in other countries. I guess technology still has a ways to go. But growing in-ground is always good, especially if you have nutrient rich soil.

Love your stuff, hydroponics will not really work for me in the Philippines as there is no access to hydro fertilizer.. So I am stuck with soil not that I am complaining. Thanks so much for you videos. They are a huge help.

Interesting, I hadn't heard about the pregnancy deal.

beets and beet greens are great antioxidants and are effective in reducing birth defects for pregnant moms

How do you get the water to wick up into the containers?
-
Thanks. This was my first time to actually get some decent beets. I was very satisfied with the results.

Great looking beets! This year will be my first attempt at growing them from seed. Too was the first year I ate the beet greens -- really good. Much milder than turnip greens.

I had trouble germinating the seeds in the past. But I've got it figured out now, and the beets did great. If you have problems with lettuce, the kratky setup should help you out. It's pretty simple.

Hard to imagine you had trouble growing a beet. Man I grow beets like their radishes drop a seed blindly and it grows a beet. My handicap is lettuce, winter crops in general to completely overall honest. Trying out the kratky method just uploaded my first hydro vid. looking forward to see what happens.

Hi Jose, actually, I'm very happy with the hydroponic stuff. It's working very well. I haven't tested a lot of fertilizer. I found one that works right from the start, so I didn't need to go looking for alternatives.

Hi Bob, this is an excelent Channel, congratulations!!!. I see that you're not full happy with your results in hidroponics, and i want to ask you how many different nutrien solutios have you tests until now with differents vegetables?
-
Thanks. I'm not familiar with Forono, but it sounds kinda interesting.
-
Just like when we were kids, it's still fun to play in the dirt. Thanks.
-
I love the Forono beets.. shaped more like a carrot..you sure have a beautiful garden!
-
I agree with you, I think the best medium to grow plants is the soil. as what the Lord intended. nice channel. God Bless!

Thanks !

Yea, I saw Donalds video. He had a ton of beets. I'm doing better with the germination now. My most recent ones sprouted pretty good. But I did keep them well watered. That helps a lot. Thanks.

Undoubtedly you have seen our buddy, Donald the bayou gardener's video on pickling beets? Well, even if you don't pickle em, beets make good eating. Even my kids like their sweet flavor and how they turn their fingers n tongues red. As far as getting them to germinate (obviously your plan worked, but) i've heard where folks would sow them n cover em with cardboard so the ground doesn't dry out (u can do the same with carrots). Take care n keep on growing.
