Growing Fall Peas in Containers Using Old Soil & Some Organic Fertilizer: That's It! - A KIS Series
Tips, Tricks
You need a good 70 days of no frost for Fall peas but the key is to get them planted now. It is too hot for peas to produce but not to start growing and getting them ready for Fall production. Put some peas in old soil, drop in some stakes for trellising and water them in with a water soluble organic fertilizer. Easy, fast and you will have Fall peas! I planted my sugar snap peas in a container in august and some of my seedlings are starting to wilt and brown, I am in zone 8 north Carolina and it is still in the high 80's daily with high humidity is that the reason y they are doing poorly? love your videos, thanks again

I just planted bush bean about three days ago, maybe four and already it has come up and is now growing very fast!
-
noticed in the 5 gallon bucket there was no drain hole for excess water....did I miss something, or is it not needed?
-
Gary, do you still like the self watering containers for tomatoes, or what?
-
Hi Gary. Have enjoyed your videos for a long time. Live in coastal SC. Temps in 90's-100's+ humidity. Bell peppers had some type of bacterial wilt. Destroyed about 15 plants. Now problems with eggplants - looks like red spider mites. Sprayed neem oil once. Next year must be proactive and start neem oil BEFORE problems occur. Looking forward to fall planting. KEEP GROWING!

I was looking at some of your videos and was wondering why do you use plastic pots for growing plants. Wouldn't a colander, fabric pot or a pond basket be much better ? The latter have better drainage, better root aeration and have the extra benefit of air-pruning, for denser roots. So, is there a specific reason why you are using a traditional plastic pot ? Surprisingly, i have seen even horticultural universities use plastic pots, which invariably have poorer drainage and aeration.

I'm curious. What % of your garden is in containers versus the ground? I can't seem to wrap my head around container gardening. Is there really much of an advantage in container gardening?

I was actually just wondering if I would be good to start peas for fall with it being so dang hot outside! thanks for reading my mind and answering this for me :)

Watched your video this morning and now have two containers planted, staked and watered. Now just waiting for the magic! Many thanks, it made my day!

can you help me out? My tomato and eggplant seedlings are getting infected with leafminers. If I spray neem oil, it will die. i have even mulched the tray with outer peelings of garlic but no effect. what do i do? thanks

It is a pleasure to watch your gardening videos. Thank you for all the effort you put into them to make them so informative

I saved the few peas I got from my plants last year, ...planted about 6 of them but only had 1 come up, ... Tried to transplant it from smaller pot to garden, & it has died, ... Oh well, ... I will use some of the other peas in a 5 gallon bucket, ... It is cracked across the bottom, so it will not hold moisture, just enough to make it damp, & from the way I watched your video, it looks like it might be more successful than other means, ... Lol!

Gary have you ever made pea pod soup, as it is very tasty and is a handy way of dealing with a waste product!

Great video! Thanks!! I am really really hoping you do more videos on other vegetables to plant for fall. I am in Northern Nevada and have my stuff growing in a greenhouse. The temp does go up to around 90, but the mister goes off every hour and cools it down to 80. I cannot plant directly outdoors because of all the rabbits. So, should I start the peas now? Or wait?
-
Could I start my peas in the garden? I have saved space for my fall- crops.

great advice !! great information !!

It's been between 70-80 F here all summer, so I've been getting a few peas all summer! Can't wait to plant my scarlet runner beans in a couple of weeks! Will plant more peas then, too. Thanks for the instructions!
-
You know, I think I'll start some peas for fall! Thanks for the timely nudge.

Thanks! I'm zone 7 and it's always helpful to be reminded when to start certain veggies.
