Here at North Columbia Farms in Kettle Falls Washington State we are growing many varieties of blueberries. There are extra steps you have to take to grow blueberries this far north. One is the protection of the roots from the cold winters. We use aged sawdust. You will see this in the video, as well as some of the varieties we are growing. Some of the plants in this video include, Early Blue, Blue Crop, Toro, Blue Gold, Duke, Blue Ray, Patriot, Jersey, and Nelson. We do also sell High Bush Blueberry plants that are hardy in the northern climates as well as strawberry plants. We are located 11 miles from the Canadian Border at an elevation of 2000 feet in North Eastern Washington State, we have been at this location since 2005 and have seen temperatures as low as -12 degrees F.

How far apart are your rows and space in between your plants?

One other Item we have been preparing, for dealing with birds, a moving "scare crow" a G-Scale outdoor train with a stuffed cat riding on top of one of the cars. Will try to get a video of it someday.

We do all that we can, such as using two Bird Guard Pro - Audio Systems, and then we leave the rest up to God. Additionally, we have a small army of cats. During the time of year when the Blueberries are on, we put there food dish in the middle of the patch, hoping that they will spend more time out there. Currently, we have a gopher problem in the orchard, so we have been feeding them there lately.
