Growing Beets from Sowing to Harvest
Tips, Tricks
Beets (also known as Beetroot) should be a staple of every vegetable garden. They're really easy to grow from seed – and you don't have to wait long 'til harvest time. Beets have quirky seed that produce multiple plants, so they need special aftercare to avoid overcrowding. In this short video we explain some simple guidelines to help you harvest a bumper crop of beets this year. If you've noticed any pests or beneficial insects in your garden lately please report them to us at http://BigBugHunt.com If you love growing your own food, why not take a look at our online Garden Planner which is available from several major websites and seed suppliers: http://www.GrowVeg.com http://gardenplanner.motherearthnews.com http://gardenplanner.almanac.com and many more... Hi, im growing Burpees Golden, Detroit dark red, Albina Vereduna & Italian beetroot Chioggia for my mum...
Its been over a month now and Burpees Golden and i think mostly all the others as well started to split at the roots ( found on the web its Main causes Irregular watering and rain). Im still trying to figure out how to water them :( . It took me a few years to grow perfect heirloom tomatoes without blossom end rot. So when it comes to edible foods im not that good at growing. They are in small pots & im watering them every monday & friday. My problem is that after over a month all my Gloden ones
and others split & im growing them just for my mum & i wanted to surprise her :( . Are they still edible please? Or because my mum boils them all the vitamins will come out since they are now split? They are not rooting just split. they are also only about 1 cms wide the roots for me dont know how by Christmas they will be ready to eat beet root size. Please help :'( . Really want to know if split beetroots still edible? & That i didnt just waste all this time :'C -
I use 2 beets a day for juicing. It keeps my blood pressure normal. I now have my husband drinking beet juice too. I would like to grow beets year round. I am going through 28 beets per week btw my husband and myself. Any advice on a perpetual year round beet garden? Thanks for all of the great videos :)

Hi, i know you can eat the leafs but can you also eat some of the
steam(which are purple)? I heard you can steam it like spinach. Can
you also use root grow (Mycorrhizal Fungi) when transplanting them to
their final place? & do the leafs taste like spinach? please -
When I was a girl I loved the pickled beets my mom used to make. Now, although I still like pickled beets my favourite way to eat them is in beet brownies, which is also a great way to sneak a little veg into the children. :)

Very informative and entertaining. Can you tell me about the software you used?

works well in garden and my back up garden along the sandy river banks of local crick-- free land and water with modern folks never noticing food is under foot nor is their few critters that abuse it-- nice way to add hundreds of beets to your winter food stores--

How many hours per day of sun do they need?

I always get leaf miners, never fails. I've stopped growing beets for this reason. It's totally unappealing to think about what's in there.

Thanks, a bit late for our season (now in July) but perhaps you could do a video for winter gardening, with beets in particular.

Great video! I'm harvesting beets here in New Brunswick. I use square foot gardening layout and my homegrown compost. Love to cook the beet greens.
