Growing 10 kinds of Basil as Transplants: The Benefits, Varieties & Planting - MFG 2016
Tips, Tricks
There are great benefits to seed starting your annual herbs like basil in seed cells. Find out why. I show you some different basil varieties and how I use and plant them. The containers you see once had peas growing in them. I removed the peas today, amended the soil and I dropped in the basil seed starts. I instantly start with 4 weeks of growth. I bought the Globe and Greek to try next year. So excited to get those going next year. I love to make my own sauces, spaghetti, BBQ and the like. I've also got a couple of Thyme's and a Rosemary. Nothing beats fresh herbs unless it's your own herbs dried❣️ 💓

...how to take cuttings from an herb plant...instead of buying a lot of them.

Great video Gary! I love basil and have been using it with mint to make loose leaf tea. I'm growing: Licorice basil, Lemon basil, Cinnamon basil, Purple basil, Genovese basil & Opal basil. Beyond pesto sauces, I found that dehydrating the leaves is also a great way to store them for long term & for using in tea :)

I really like this. I get overzealous when planting seeds into the ground. I'll want to try a bunch of types of seeds and instead of planting one or two seeds I'll plant so many and be overwhelmed with plants! 🌱🌱🌱 Starting them like you've done will help keep my crazy planting under control. Plus I can still try many varieties of one type of herb and have them all under control in one pot.
Do you find some of the basil types growing over the others? Like you said the one variety wasn't tall. Will it get overrun or overshadowed by the other taller varieties? -
I grow 8 types of basil last year. Used maybe 3. The rest were composted. So I'm going to be a lot less ambitious this year - maybe Thai, opal and sweet. Maybe lemon too.

Such a treat to see your face! I've been harvesting so much basil lately from just 2 plants I also started from seed.

I've only tried purple basil other than the common green broad-leaf Basil. It's not as strong to me. Are any the of the others you've mentioned as potent as the common Basil? Thank You.

I just set my basil out a few days ago. I only have 12 of them, 3 differen varieties grown form a gourmet blend seed mix. I put some here and there too, just like you did.
