Grow Your Own Spring Onions With Quickcrop
Tips, Tricks
Spring onions tend to be treated as an afterthought by most gardening books yet they are a popular crop and very useful, possibly because they are really easy to grow. Salad onions, also properly called scallions are not just easily grown, they can provide a useful substitute for bulb onions if stocks are low as you await the new crop. do you also need to sow several seeds in 1 cell for yellow onions? because I only put 3 seeds per cell, and they've hardly grown.

Hey lads, thanks for all the great videos :) They are very well put together. Just have a quick question, after sowing the seeds in the modular tray, how often do I need to water them now until I plant them out?
Thanks :) Keep up the great work! -
Great Video fellas....watching all your videos has made me register for a plot and get stuck in! there are modular trays all over the house! bring on the warmer weather, i'm looking forward to this....

is it a requirement to transplant the green onions to larger soil fields after the seeds germinate?

I don't agree you need to sow them continuously. I'm still eating the spring onions I planted 8 months ago. I just cut them off at ground level and they grow back, at least a few times each. Didn't bolt or flower over summer (I think they don't flower until second season). It's winter now and they seem barely bothered by the frosts (wind damaged bent outer leaves go brown, but that's about it). I need the garden space though so I am starting two rows in a long pot instead.

Loved your video although I sat like an eejit spacing seeds out today and of course I will want them in bunches for picking. Great to hear you calling them by their proper name SCALLIONS like we all do in Ireland - North and South! I'll sow some more tomorrow - the right way like you did in the video in the video :)

i planted them in rows 12-15cm apart. they grew to about 10cm in height and has now stopped! The soil is very rich, and i water once a day. Any ideas why they stop growing? I live in a sub-tropical climate.

thank you for the advice i have just put my pot of onions in my tunnle thank you
-
you're better off putting them outside as they will get more light. Unless you have them in a greenhouse or tunnel, they should be fine there but keep them well watered
-
if you are growing these in pots do you have to transfer them outside or can they just stay in the pots inside
