Where I live in SE Florida my Lemon Grass grows like a weed. It's amazing. I planted a 4" pot of locally purchased Lemon Grass in my backyard and now (several years later), it's spread out into a 12 FOOT square area and when the seed heads come out it's about 9 FEET TALL. Lemon Grass for everybody. If you don't want it to spread as much as mine did, just cut the seed heads off. The wind blows and Lemon Grass grows in any flower pot or open piece of ground nearby.

Wow. You cut them down quite a bit. So it's pretty much like green onions then. Seems OBVIOUS, now you've pointed it out, but I know it never would have occurred to me if I hadn't seen your vid. Very cool, will be using this. Thanks! BTW, do you change out the water at all, or just leave the same stuff in until you pot them? And about how deep would you want to bury them when you pot? Never done it before. Thanks & will be checking out your other vids.

I grew my own in a similar way here in Portugal. I put them in a larger container though - about 8" or 9" across - & didn't cut them back. At first they grew slowly & then really shot away! By the end of the first year the pot was almost filled - so took a few off for friends. Winter here is usually ok, but that first winter they got hit by a couple of -10˚C nights - & I thought I might have lost them. I trimmed back the really dry leaves & last year it was better than ever! Keep from cold!

Did it work? Yes & no. It rooted. I ignored it. It grew but didn't thrive. Lemongrass is a perennial so I have a leg up on fresh lemongrass next year.
