Grow Heirloom Tomatoes In The Desert? Yes!
Tips, Tricks
April, the Artistic Gardener, takes you on a tour of her summer garden (2015) dispelling the common belief that only six or seven varieties of tomatoes (with well over 700+ heirlooms and open-pollinated varieties to choose from) can be grown successfully in the Las Vegas, Nevada area. So not true!!! Join April as she walks you through her summer garden (2015) pointing out each unique and inspiring heirloom and open-pollinated tomato variety being grown. Keep in mind that this video was recorded at the end of June in 110°F temps. The total yield? 165 lbs of tomatoes! Most of the varieties performed well into the months of July and August, with a couple of varieties producing new fruit in the desert summer heat! Heirloom and Open-Pollinated Varieties featured in this video: A Grappoli D'Inverno (heirloom) Black Trifele (heirloom) Blue Gold Berries (open-pollinated) Costoluto Genovese (heirloom) Dad's Sunset (open-pollinated) Dr. Wyche's Yellow (heirloom) German Pink (heirloom) Gold Medal (heirloom) Pink Bumble Bee (open-pollinated) Stupice (heirloom) Sunrise Bumble Bee (open-pollinated) Tasmanian Blushing Yelllow (open-pollinated) Hit the "Like" button, Click "SUBSCRIBE", Comment Below, and Share this Video! April, I am so delighted to have found you. I live in Henderson a little south of you (only hotter) and I am struggling to grow vegetables. I have only tried two times, and both times I was restricted to what I could find at Star Nursery, which are mostly Hybrid tasteless tomatoes (including the infamous Hawaiian Tropic) But this year I tasted a tomato that is a new Hybrid bred from two popular Heirlooms - Cherokee Purple and Carbon.
It was so good compared to what else I have tried, that I decided this year that I must find a way to grow some Heirloom tomatoes, despite what you know who says. Would love to talk.
