Grow Healthy Cucumbers & Prevent Yellowing
Tips, Tricks
If you have ever grown cucumbers, some of your cucumbers will turn out a yellowish or orange color. This is a result of either letting them grow too long on the vine, over-watering or inconsistent watering. In this video, we have an unreal amount of rain in 2 weeks that caused this problem, but we still harvested several good green cucumbers out of the harvest at the Missouri City, Texas community garden.

Cucumbers like water, when there are a lot cucumbers on the plants, water them every morning or evening after you pick up the adult cucumbers. The yellow ones are for seeds, they are old. We usually make the cucumbers grow on verticals, easy to water by row, the cucumber will not feel too much water even after running.

Love the Community Garden! Been meaning to ask you, as a Houstonian here, wanting to find some good fruit trees... Where do you get yours? There's a place in Rosenberg, do you have experience with them?

Is it a bad idea to water cucumbers for your neighbors plot if they look sick?

I need help! My cucumber plant is about 3 feet tall. Using the trellis to grow them upward rather than on the floor. They look healthy and all its just one concern I have. They seem to be splitting at the base I've looked it up online but no sure answers. I water them daily the leaves are dark green every once in a while a leaf will look deformed which has never happened before but anyway if you have any advice that'd be cool John Koehler is too busy to answer questions these days

Do you have any advice for squash vine borer bugs? I lost my entire 58 plant cucumber crop to them, then my zuchini, then my various squash plants, now its my cantaloupe plants they are attacking. I spend around a hour and a half each day picking them off by hand and murdering them. Tried two different organic pestacides. Yet its still a losing battle, i cant keep up enough to save my plants let alone keep any of the "fruits" or flowers alive long enough to get a harvest. Tried putting pantyhose on the "fruits" too but they chew right through it to get in.

great video! I myself am having problems with some newly planted cucumber plants. the leaves are starting to turn white. it's not powdery but just some white coloring on the leaves. what could be causing this? keep the videos coming!

hi Jeff. I live. Quail Run located in Missouri City, Texas. im so glad to have found your channel. where is your community garden located?

It is difficult growing cucumbers in direct sun from Texas (Austin), it gets so hot they wilt when the temps are even in the 70's! Had to place them under a canopy and I hope they give me plenty of fruit.

We had heavy rains in Florida last year and a couple of my cucumbers turned yellow/orange. I did save them for seed and those seedlings are about 4" tall. I should be planting soon and hope for a great cucumber harvest.
Jeff, do you use the same nutrients when planting your vegetables as your tomato video, ie, Epsom salts, Fish bone meal and Calcium nitrate? I am new to your channel but enjoying the benefit of your experience and knowledge. Thank you, Nancy -

ok people here are some thoughts from an organic produce grower. I'v many ag degrees and have been a farmer for 40 years. Rain has nothing to do with cukes getting yellow. You won't get sick if u eat them. In fact they make great toung pickles. If u pick daily or every other day at least they wont turn yellow.
