hello , how can i protect fig tree from coldness ?
average cold temperature in winter =-2 to -5 for 2 month but some time maybe -10 to -15 for 3 or 7 days in a month -
I had a Brown Turkey in SE Missouri and two of them grew to over 15 feet high and wide! One never did bear fruit though?

Sorry but Brown Turkey figs are not the best figs. They have tough skin and little flavor compared to most figs. Seek out Italian varieties and sources on internet.

I was just wondering if some one that had a fig tree in a pot and sett it cloes to the house if that would do some good part shade, part sun, or just plant it by the house. What do you think about that ... Thank you

I purchased my brown turkey fig tree while living in Houston. I grew it in a pot. 3 yrs later we moved to Dallas. We decided to plant it straight in the ground. It has survive the most cold, freezing, heavy snowing winters. It always put out little fruit, but this year, the fruit are nice and large, extremely sweet. And in fact, it's large enough to partly shade my car on the back driveway. I've made some typical English Jame, I used 5 lbs fruit and 2.5 (half fruit weight) of sugar, added a touch of fresh ginger, a 1/2 cup water and chopped up all the fruit after removing stems, and now have the most beautiful Jam. I'm going to make a hot relish from the next batch. Great with Port chops, chicken etc.

i live next door to monrovia nursery and i haven't been able to grow figs from a cutting yet....i even use the same potting mix that they use...
