Hi Boss, so it's not wise to root clones in a hydro cloning machine, then planting them in Medium?
-
@growboss the growing bible contradicts your no rockwool into a hydro . do you mind elaborating
"One example of a transplant is
when the seedlings are ready in their rockwool SBS tray. The seedling
is lifted from the tray along with the rockwool cube and placed in
another grow medium such as soil, or maybe even a hydroponics setup" -
Hi bud, I am thinking of switching from hydro to soil but know little on it.
Can you tell me what ph range I should use. I am hearing several different things saying 5.5 , 6.2, 6.5 and as far as 7.5!
Can you clear that up for me please, also hear r.o water would make huge difference (but I never experienced much trouble in hydro?
Also would consider getting your guide but I live in u.k?
Many thanks in advance for your time. -

Couldn't you just take media from a hardware store and freeze in the freezer for 48-72 hours and that would kill and possibility of a a bug doing anything?

Thanks, you answered my hydro questions. I was debating going to hydro and I know the technique but light is an issue. I need to upgrade my lights first. The one thing I found very confusing is I've seen a lot of people both with vegetables and cannabis growing in hydro systems using rockwool. They seem to be doing fine. In truth virtually everyone I've seen doing rockwool are doing some variation on hydro including some I've seen doing a shallow pan system with an airstone to both add air and move the nutrient solution around. It is confusing that rockwool is so popular in hydro systems and you're saying don't do it? Personally I never used rockwool on either vegetables or cannabis. For cannabis I've been doing soil just to limit the variables and because it's safer for a novice cannabis grower. I've done vegetables off and on for nearly 50 years. I'm still on my first cannabis grow. An FYI for anyone considering rockwool there's talk the dust could be as bad for your lungs as asbestos. The plants grown in it are safe just don't breath in any of the dust from the cube itself. It's more of a risk for large scale growers but I'd wear a dusk mask around the stuff until it gets wet and dispose of the packaging safely.

so if i did 4 plants in coco under a 630w cmh. is that enought?
-
Good job, Grow Boss. Yes, Light=Yield. Here's the LightRail link that supports that: http://www.lightrail3.com/indoor-grow-light-2-feet-4-feet-or-more-above-the-plant-canopy/

I have a question about the watts per week of hydro vs soil
you didnt mention size of space so im confused
i have a 2x2 and thinking to use a 250W for 8 week of flower
you are suggesting that in hydro i would need 400w for that space? -
not that good. but i can hit 2+ with a mogul socket 1000 watt hps with a pig yielder. More with double ended. But thats with co2 and mini split amd sealed room. With no co2 and vented traditional rooms i used to hit tue 24 ounce. Just under less with all the smaller og stuff. Canopy management and like you say...FULL canopy is key. And your also pretty spot on with veg room light. 600 watts for every 1000 watts of flowering light. Doesnt matter if its t5...halide...or what have you. I can get away with 400 watts of veg light but the canopy isnt quite as full when thrown into flower and yields suffer a bit.

I will just leave you alone. Your advice is great for noobs and people that just cant yield what they should be yielding. I too have been growing forever. Since Sinsemilla Tips magazine was first published...decades ago. Your advice is for a certain group of growers. The ones that come in your store....all with the same problems maybe. Have a good day.

peat moss contains no minerals on its own...acidic yes. coco coir has potassium but takes alot longer to break down to release it. much longer than a typical 3 to 4 month cycle. rockwool is slightly alkaline but again...no minerals. you have to amend these or use a nutrient/water solution containing all the essential minerals to survive and thrive. A full profile...and in balance. This is hydroponics. ...the very definition of the word. Your info is prettt good. But in this video you imply that rockwool, coco coir, and other inert mediums are somehow different than a water based hydroponic system. They are not. Its all hydroponics. Speed of vegetative growth in aero or deep water culture systems doesnt put it in a different catagory.
-
your definition of hydroponics is in stark contrast to what hydroponics really is. Your medium based systems are still hydroponics. Feeding your plants in a largely inert medium with a full profile nutrient solution is hydroponics. Whether coco....peat...rockwool...perlite...air...water...its all hydroponics by definition.

Hey, Im having trouble finding alternative ways to sow seeds WITHOUT rock wool. Literally every video i see seems to use the Rock wool with clay technic. Any help? Cheers.

WTF? Dude??
I have personal experience with a hydro (DWC) under a 400w HPS light, i got 2 harvests in before the police came and shut me down... First harvest yielded about 7 ounces, the second (topped and supercropped) plant gave me about 12 ounces.
Very dense buds, in fact the main cola on my first plant weighed 47.5 grams.. I was a happy farmer man :) -
