Great Herbs! How to Seed Start Sage & Lavender Indoors: Slow Growers! - MFG 2014
Tips, Tricks
Sage and lavender are great aromatic herbs. They do get large but they start out small and are slow growers. They can take up to 3 weeks to germinate. You can really start sage and lavender indoors 10-12 weeks before the garden will be ready for them. Welcome to My 1st Vegetable Garden. Hi Gary, I bought some sage, green garden sage, tri color and purple. I want to put them in containers. I searched all ur videos and i just have few questions i couldn't find the answers to. 1.When i put in the container to go out side, do i just use my Pro-Mix Potting Mix (MycoActive) just as is or do i need to prepare it with the 10-10-10, blood meal and bone meal like u do for tomatoes and peppers? 2. and also what size of container would be appropriate for i would say for a 4 inch potted sage i bought. 3. I was thinking of putting all 3 together in one pot. Is that alright? 4. and first time with chocolate mint, can that be in the same pot with sage or needs to be separate. ty for reading Gary, can't wait to hear back from u :)

Do you have a cumin plant ? I've been looking around and haven't found much.

Hi, I am a beginner at all this and I was wondering, is it at all possible to keep the sage plant inside in a pot instead of putting it outside? I'm wanting to have it inside for a while and keep it in a pot instead of transferring it to the soil.

Can you believe it ? I planted sage seeds in peat pellet on 9 january (indoor) and ive checked today and found already 2 seeds showed up their heads . And today is 15 january , so only 6 days !!! (its Salvia Officinalis and ive put the pot sometimes close to the stove if it helps).
On the other side ive planted rosemary in peat pellets too, on 5 january and still nothing :(( yes i know ,you said it takes 14-21 days to germinate , some people says 18-25 days but ive put close to the stove sometimes too as the sage.
How come the sage has the same germination time theoretically as rosemary but it did germinated in only 6 days ? Is it because the seeds are bigger and can germinate faster or maybe ive kept the sage to much near a stove ? I dont know the exact time how i ve kept the sage or rosemary close to the stove , i did just randomly ,but this is a miracle !?
I specify the seeds were planted in peat pellets not soil so it is impossible to have weed seeds .
Oh, the sage seeds were planted by the kids :) hoping to germinate faster or to get healthy plants and to give them to adopt (each kid with its own sage to care about it) but the wish became real. What is going on here ? only 6 days ? :)
I hope i didnt hold to much the pellets near the stove to get only 2 plants and others to kill them ..
On rosemary i thik i put the seeds to deep :( ? will the rosemary germinate if its at the half deep of the peat pellets ?
Thank you. -
can i use the wet paper towel method for lavender seeds to germinate ?

How do I know when it's time to put the lavender in larger containers? My sprouts are up now, about 4 in tall. I want to make sure they have enough room to continue growing properly. Thanks!

Really enjoying these videos. I built a grow light similar to your PVC stand setup and will be growing my own seedlings for the first time this year. Any chance of doing a marjoram video? Just curious if you do it with a few seeds per cell or use the over seed method.

I would love to grow lavender I have terrible luck with it, if I get it to grow, I end up drowning (I think). I would like to use it to make crafts and soap, and would really like to grow 5 square foot of it. I'll try again.
