I prefer to weedmat an area for maybe 2 or 3 months to get rid of those weeds, then sew the seed after removing the weedmat, covering the seed with soil. Much less work! The lazy gardener approach! Fescue will germinate pretty quick in the right conditions. I also like to sew plenty of seed to keep the grass cover thick.
