About Knock Out Roses: The Double Knock Out Rose is very stable and unfazed by the heat. Classic shaped flowers from early Spring to the first frost. With superior drought tolerance once established, it has the toughness and resistance for which the family is known. A vibrant color that perks up any landscape. Since being selected as an AARS (All-America Rose Selections) winner in 2000, the patented Knock Out roses quickly became the largest-selling rose variety in North America. They’re fast becoming a staple of home and municipal landscapes and parks due to their carefree attitude and showy, summer-long blossoms. It had everything — showy, continuous blooms; compact growth habit; tough-as-nails constitution; and, best of all, no need to spray for black spot disease. Knock Out roses have several periods of blooming through the growing season. It is not uncommon to have the bushes in bloom every five weeks from late spring to early fall. An appealing characteristic is that the plants are self-cleaning so there is no deadheading of spent blooms needed to promote additional blooms. Knock Out roses are desirable due to their low maintenance requirements. Pruning is common in standard roses, but Knock Out varieties need this task done only about every three years. The plants have a compact, bushy appearance with a mature height of 4 feet tall. ‘Knockout’ rose, owes its uber-popularity to the belief that it’s the first “no maintenance” rose — perfect for the lazy gardener in all of us. William Radler, a native Wisconsin rose breeder, worked tirelessly to cultivate the Knockout Rose. Introduced in 2000 by the Conard-Pyle Co./Star® Roses, Radler’s Knockout Rose is bred specifically as a low-maintenance, adaptive rose cultivar. Gardeners all over the United States, and beyond, have rejoiced. The Knockout Rose has enabled gardeners in cold-weather locations, such as my Massachusetts neighbors, to plant stunning rose gardens.
