Giving the tomatillos a haircut!
Tips, Tricks
A look at my 64 day old from seed tomatillos that I've been growing indoors since the beginning of January under grow lights. These plants grow really fast so I need to prune these back so that I can still grow them under my grow lights. I was mistaken in the video when I said they were started Jan 2nd. They were actually started January 26th!

I grew several in a big old recycling bin. As they grew taller I laid them down and covered them with soil. They grew fast and as they grew taller again I kept adding more soil in the bin. Now the trunks are really thick and I have lots of fruits on them. I just don't know how big they need to be before harvesting. I planted more in progression in other containers so I wouldn't have too many at one time. Sure is fun watching them grow!

I grew more than half of my citrus from seed or from cuttings of other trees. The rest are from trees that I bought at nurseries. Home Depot in Scarborough on Ellesmere has a good selection of citrus trees right now for a good price. Many with fruit already on them.

WOW, thanks so much for the fast reply! I live in RIchmond Hill to be exact. Nice to find a local guy growing quality produce in my area. Did you start your citrus yourself or buy them from a local store? (I am trying to grow citrus for the first time this year)

I live in Southern Ontario Canada too! Toronto to be exact. You can grow tomatillos outside in the summer here and get fruit! You just need to replant every spring. Thanks for watching and subscribing!

where do you live Chip? I live in Southern Ontario Canada so I am always envious of others growing hotter climate plants!

Good lord they are huge! Nice video, thanks. That was fun to watch :)

Yeah I was going to title it Tomatillo Revenge :)

Yeah Nicole, when you've had 10-30F for a couple months 50F feels like you're in Florida. Looking forward to get a peek at your new pom plant! I have a few updates I need to on both my indoor and outdoor ones.

You are so right about the soil. Almost tshirt weather with those temps? I would just die. : > ) Oh man... I still need to do a quick video on my pomegranate.

They're only two months old so just babies. :) I'll start them in Feb/March next time. Yeah I trust a soil from a good nursery over home depot/walmart stuff anyday. Weather is getting there. In the low 50's during the day and 30's at night but will shoot up fast in the next month. Almost tshirt weather here we call it.

Seedlings? What? They are huge! Good going on the nursery soil though. I love getting things from the nursery and the cost I find not that much more expensive. Quality is always better. Gosh I need to repot my tomatoes too. How is the weather?

I'm feeding them NOTHING! These things are just "seedlings".. hehe. I did change things up from last year and switched to an $8/bag potting mix from a nursery instead of the Miracle grow one for $4/bag and I think it was worth every penny. I think the decent amount of light I use makes a big difference too. Someone just showed me their 1 month old tomatoes growing my a bright window compared to my 2 week ones and the one month ones are much smaller.

Gosh those tomatillos are fab and healthy! What are you feeding those plants? Share the wealth!
