Getting Kale Ready to Thrive in the Fall: Whiteflies, Insects, Treatments & Edible Spring Flowers
Tips, Tricks
Don't yank your summer kale! Kale is hardy so if the roots don't freeze, it will over-winter and you will have edible spring flowers. Here in Maryland Zone 7, kale is a 3 season crop. Come late summer I often have to freshen it up to get it ready to thrive in the fall. I show you how I treat whiteflies, caterpillars and snails. Three steps to get rid of insects and have hardy fall kale! Thanks for the tips. My kale had some holes in some of the leaves🍃 Ended up with 6 tiny green caterpillars 🐛 killed them then sprayed with the neem oil/soap mix.
Does kale do well in summer? I live in South Australia and summer is about to start. -
Another one is soda mild soap and oil neem
-
I see in the youtube that skimmed milk can spray on the the plant it's safe

Hi Gary, is it necessary to mix a fresh batch of neem oil, dish soap, and water for each application? I just have a few kale plants and I have a lot of the neem mix left over from the first application. Thanks so much for all your videos, I really enjoy them and find them very helpful.

Hey Gary, does iron phosphate harm toads? I have so many snails since it's been raining so much and I have quite a few toads, big ones, little ones, but not enough to get rid of all the snails. I want to keep the toads, just get rid of the snails.

Any plants that you can not use neem oil on?
Also do you have any experience on using beneficial insects, predatory (if that's the right word), to help with pest control. -
Thanks! Good reminder 😊

Great information Gary. I couldn't believe it! You sprayed your kale with a sprayer that had a ROUNDUP logo on it. Best wishes Bob.

My Kale growing south east coast of Australia is indestructible. I let the bugs eat what they want, the plants survive and i still get enough leaves.
Just speculation but i think a long term strategy of good soil and predatory insect habitat means less need for pest management -
Great video
