Garlic Chives
Tips, Tricks
Garlic Chives are an attractive, prolific plant that is a great addition to any herb garden and when properly contained, an eye-pleasing addition to your yard scape. They are easy to grow and very tasty! There is nothing like clipping a hand full of garlic chives and moments later, adding them to a baked potato, soups, salads or sautéed veggies. Use them in any recipe as you would a green onion but enjoy the bonus of a mild garlic taste. Dirt Farmer Jay gives you tips on growing, containing and propagating them. You can even eat their blossoms!

VERY Helpful Jay. You took me from the Chive to its uses and reuses. I do appreciate it. I have chives growing at my new home. I didn't have a clue of how to use them. Quick question though, are these the same things as green onions? We buy green onions at the store (the long green kind). They look the same. I picked off a few pieces of the green chives in my garden and it didn't have much flavor as the green onions from the store... so????? tks for any info/advice

Maxine, I'm glad you found this to be of help. We really enjoy our chives with potatoes. I just harvested the seed after the flower heads had dried. I have several friends that I'll be giving some to, as well as starting another bed here around our place. I really enjoy your part of the world (I've visited Melbourne and areas around there, as well as NZ. Beautiful!
