Gardening Tips: How to Plant Tiny Flower Seeds
Tips, Tricks
Some flowers and shrubs begin their life as a very tiny seed, so tiny in fact that they are practically just dust. Have you wondered how in the world do you plant such tiny seeds? In this video I'll show you step by step on how I sow tiny seeds such as foxglove, coral bells (heuchera), agastache, begonia, rhododendron, hydrangea, delphinium, primrose, and the list goes on. This is just a quick little video that I hope will give you the insight to grow those sometimes difficult dust-like seeds. Happy gardening! by Bernadette Fox http://bernadettesgarden.blogspot.com. I have planted Munstead Lavender this year as well. They are a very sporadic germinater, and require you to keep them under a humidity dome until a good portion have germinated. Letting them dry out may result in killing the sprouted seed that have yet to germinate. Lavender seeds don't have the greatest germination rate to begin with so don't expect much more than 70 percent germination. Keep them under the lights would be a good idea.
How large are the ones that have germinated and how fast did they come up from the time you planted? If they came up in about 2 weeks and nothing since then I am going to assume it's a poor seed source or you may have let them dry out once at a critical time. It happens to me a lot! Happened to my begonias which I am still kicking myself. lol. Let me know if you need any more suggestions! -
I am trying to grow Dwarf Munstead Lavender from seed and have a poor germination rate with 11 sprouting out of 72 seeds. Any suggestions to improve my results? The tray is under lights in a heated room. I planted them 4 weeks ago. Thank you for your helpful videos.
