I learned that it hurt the plant to pull/yank, it is best to use sharp scissors/cutters & clean w/ alcohol between use to avoid infection. Watch 'The Secret Lives of Plants' - its old & amazing. Don't hurt them, they feel it.

What zone are you in? Zone 5 here, and wish my geranium could make the winter (doubt it though).
