Through this informative video, I just figured out that growing blackberries and raspberries are very easy to grow with proper drainage and compact soil. I am grateful for sharing your ideas on this because I really love these kind of fruits.

I got one stuck on my back and had to trim it aggressively - about 2 feet above soil - how long until it comes back? I left the long sprig in place and leaning against a wall.

@TheSpartacat Wondering if Claire could give you some insight into the root problem? Maybe she has some insight into how to get rid of them easier? or if she had issues w/them when she started out? Yes, her enthusiasm is inspiring. I had potatoes show up in one of my compost bins this year... I called them "my wee Irish potatoes"...washed them off left them by my 95 yr old Mums doorstep after showing them to her..when I went back for them later she had already cooked & eaten them ! haha

@mukwah1111 Sounds beautiful!! :-) I do watch Claire's allotment, :-) really like her channel, and her enthusiasm!! It perks me up after a day of root excavation! :-)

@TheSpartacat Best of luck with your eradicating the vintage rootwork. Not fun at all but hopefully will go well & be worth all of your hard work. My backyard faces north & is a series of 3 hills...outlined with giant trees & a forest behind so not suitable for "gardening" ..great bird sanctuary tho & super private.....country in the city. Do you watch "Claire's Allotment" on YT. She is a great source for allotment gardening in your environment. If you arent familiar with her give her a watch..

@mukwah1111 Its made by Vitax if you have any probs finding it. Ah I feel your pain! (Quite literally!) I've just taken on a 10metre by 30 metre allotment (like your own patch of a community garden that you rent from the council to grow veg) and its not been cultivated in about 20 years... so its a giant bramble patch. I, unfortunately, have to dig those roots out if i'm to grow any veg there, so killing them off isn't enough. Horrible job!!! It'll be worth it I guess!!! :-)

@TheSpartacat Thanks ! My torn hands, forearms & legs are proof that I have chopped those nasty buggers down haha. The thorns dont just prick the skin, they imbed & rip as they pull away. What a miserable job. I have never heard of SBK but will hunt for it at a garden center. Now would be a good time to paint it on and hopefully wipe out those stalks so that winter will do away with them. Many thanks for your help. Waves across the big pond from Ont.

@mukwah1111 Once you've chopped them down - then paint SBK Brushkiller on the stumps. You may need to repeat a few times! Good luck!

I need to know how to GET RID of Blackberry bushes that have taken over the limited space I have along my fence. I have just spent hours cutting back the canes...& stalks...the cuts on my hands, arms & legs are a testament to that. Now how do I get the base of the bushes...the stumps to die off? I dont have the strength to dig them up...is there a way to kill them off without digging?
